Compliance Rhythm Starter Checklist

Purpose: help leaders make compliance work visible through recurring review habits, not last-minute urgency.

How to use this

This checklist does not tell you what your legal or regulatory obligations are. It helps you create a rhythm for seeing the work, assigning ownership, and catching issues earlier.

Monthly Compliance Rhythm

AreaQuestion to reviewOwnerStatus
DocumentationWhat records are late, incomplete, inconsistent, or hard to find?
TrainingWho is due, overdue, or missing evidence of completion?
IncidentsWhat events require review, follow-up, reporting, or trend discussion?
PoliciesWhich policies need review, updating, or manager reinforcement?
AuditsWhat should be checked before someone external asks for it?

Weekly Visibility Check

What is overdue?Name late items before they become leadership surprises.
What is unclear?Identify policies, handoffs, or documentation expectations people interpret differently.
What repeated?Recurring misses usually point to a system issue.
Who owns follow-up?A risk without an owner is not being governed.
What changed?New services, staff, locations, or client needs may change operating risk.
What needs escalation?Escalate legal, clinical, licensing, reimbursement, or regulatory questions to qualified professionals.

What Your Answers May Be Telling You

If compliance only becomes visible when something is late, the issue may be rhythm. If the same items are late every month, the issue may be ownership, capacity, training, or workflow design.

When to Ask for Help

Ask for help when leaders cannot see compliance status without searching, when follow-up depends on one person, or when growth is creating more requirements than the current system can reliably track.
